I really liked this book!!
There is just something about it that I can't quite put my finger on but it feels quite magical when you read it. It was also interesting to read a story from the perspective of german people who were also appalled by the atrocities they witnessed.
I loved the relationships that Liesel formed with the people around her and how deeply she cared for them even if she did mostly struggle to articulate it. I also loved how the author was able to weave in the reality of the holocaust and the treatment of the Jewish people in a really subtle but poignant way.
The other lasting impression this book left me with is that really are no winners in war. Both sides end up with it's victims, innocent lives lost and irreparable damage to minds, bodies and souls.
This book is beautiful and heartbreaking and quite wonderful.
