I need to talk about THAT ENDING!!!!!
I actually had to take a little time to process this ending. I was intially gutted to find out that Kya actually did it. I felt so fooled because I really, really liked her... to the point of her actually being one of my most favourite characters ever in a book!!
However, upon reflection I was able to see, here was a girl who had been rejected by her community, abandoned by her family and let down by the people who claimed they loved her. She knew that she would have lived in fear of Chase, she couldn't tell anyone because no-one would have believed her anyway and she certainly had no trust in authority. Given how brutally he assaulted her, it was always going to be him or her.
Normally, my strong sense of justice would be outraged that she'd 'got away with it' but under the circumstances, I'm kinda glad she did.
Anyone else feel a bit irritated that we never did find out what actually happened on the fire tower?
Would love to know your thoughts.
