This was a book I'd wanted to read for such a long time and was really excited to finally start it earlier this year. Now here's the thing, I totally get why this is a classic. It really gets you thinking especially considering the time we're in with so many conspiracy theories flying around about various events globally. However, the book is a really tough read. Dull characters who we never really get to know so don't really ever care for. But.... is this not the clever thing about 1984. A dystopian world where the government is in control over every aspect of a person's life. The thought police monitoring the actions of suspicious people who may be a threat to the new world order. It's chilling stuff. We're not meant to know about the character of the people in the story. We're not meant to care about them. Not knowing or caring about people makes us all less human. So, all in all, I can't say that I 'enjoyed' this book but I am really glad I've read it.
