The Phone Box at the Edge of the World by Laura Imai MessinaThis is the Fictional story of Yui, who loses her Mother and Daughter in the 2011 Tsunami in Japan. Although it is a fictional novel, it is inspired by true story and a real phone box. This book starts off quite chaotic in it's writing style and I found it difficult to get to grips with what the author was trying to do. It does initially take some sticking power to carry on but I assure you, it's worth it. The book evolves into a beautiful piece of literature dealing with the raw emotions felt by people left behind after terrible tragedy. Feelings of loss, helplessness, displacement leading to guilt for eventually starting to find a way through it and daring to consider being loved again. Anyone who has experienced tragedy and loss will find the writing quite personal at times and will be able to identify with some of the reflections on loss described in this book. Profound in the most beautiful way.
