The Duke and I is the first book out of nine books about the Bridgerton family. The Duke and I follows the oldest daughter, Daphne, a young debutant, who is being presented to London's social life and like any other young woman, trying to find a respectable husband. She meets the attractive Duke of Hastings (Simon), who has a scared soul, after his father pretty much cast him away, cause Simon had a bad stutter and was considered as stupid because of it. Simon Hasting has no interest in finding a wife, cause he wants his title to end with him. Daphne doesn't seem to get the right suitors. So they make a deal, where the duke pursue Daphne and thereby give Daphne the buzz among the bachelors in London. But things don't remain neutral between the two and after a scandal, the two are forced to marry each other and the two have to figure out what their feelings are for each other. I really liked the book. Got steamy parts (nothing like some other books I've read - like Outlander), but it's a great historical romance novel. I've read all nine books and have to say some of the other books are even better than the first one. Especially the fourth. Each book follows one of the Bridgerton children (there are 8), the ninth is an epilogue with the children and the mother of the 8 children.

oooh... I already watched the first Bridgerton series on TV. I didn't realise it was a set of novels. I may have to catch up with you on these Susanne and read them before the next series comes out. I know they've already commissioned another 5 series I think it is

You definitely should. They are brilliant, much better than the series, but that's just my opinion (do like the series too, but).
Each book follows a Bridgerton sibling. 1. The Duke and I (follows Daphne and Simon) 2. The Viscount who loved me (Anthony and Katie) 3. An Offer from a Gentleman (Benedict and Sophe - really Cinderella story right there) 4. Romancing Mr. Bridgerton (Colin and Penelope) 5. To Sir Philip with Love (Eloise and Philip) 6. When he was wicked (Francesca and Michael) 7. It's in his kiss (Hyacinth and Gareth) 8. On the way to the wedding (Gregory and Lady Lucinda) 9. Happily Ever After (epilogues for the Bridgerton family)
There are other prequal books and book that follow some of the minor characters in the books too, so Julia Quinn has been busy, hahaha.
