I love both the book and the movie but have to say that the movie was really well cast. Marcus: "I think I killed a duck!!!" I liked the book better simply because the relationship between Marcus and Ellie is explored more and I really liked their friendship. It was the only thing I felt was particularly lacking in the movie. The thing I really love about this book is the reality check that kids aren't stupid. They know what's going on even when you don't want them to know. They sat there a while longer. Marcus didn't feel like breaking the silence; if saying "Hello Ellie" caused that much trouble, then he wasn't about to ask her if she'd had a nice weekend.

I saw the movie before I read the book and I liked both. But I haven't seen the movie after I read the book. Think it was a couple of years apart, from I saw the movie to reading the book, so I didn't really put the two up for comparison. So to conclude, I liked both in their own rights.
