Now I had many opinions before I read the first book. I had heard both good and bad about it. A friend of mine had read it, loved it. Then there's all the other comments about it being cheap housewife porn and what not. I had even dared myself to watch the first movie. So over Christmas I ended up not just reading the first book. I ended up reading them all and watched the movies too. And I was pleasantly surprised. Basically because you don't have to think that much while reading. I don't mind novels, where you use you brain, but it was a great book to just mellow out to.
For those who have lived under a rock and have no clue what Fifty Shades of Grey is about. We follow the young woman, Anastasia Steel, who does a favour for her room mate and head off to do an interview about one of the youngest successful business men, Christian Grey. Grey is handsome and has an impeccable taste when it comes to suits. Ana is just plain and normal looking. However Christian sees potential in the young woman, just not how she imagined it.
It's the beginning to a love story, where Christian is battling with ghosts, who's shaped him into his obsession for control, not just over his business, but over women too. Anastasia is intrigued by the world he introduces her to (submissive and dominator culture), but when it comes down to it, she wants more. She wants more from him than he's ever wanted to give a woman. It leads to a confrontation between the two and Christian has to make a choice. Is Ana just another submissive or is she more.
The story has a lot of steamy scenes, but I think there is more to it than that. Again, it's not a story, where the author asks you to think very much, which isn't a problem for me. So I would go ahead and give it four out of five stars, mainly because I was pleasantly surprised. The two other books can be recommended as well.
