What was the first non-picture book you remember reading as a child and felt a sense of accomplishment at finishing. Do you still own the book or a copy of it?
Mine was the Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton. The book may still be in my parents attic but I have been thinking about getting a newer copy for my bookshelf. I feel very sentimental toward it lol.

I grew up in Germany, so all my childhood books were in German. Can't quite remember which one was my first non-picture book. Most of the children books had the odd picture in them, anyway. "Die Kleine Hexe" was one I remember well, and some others, but their titles wouldn't mean anything to anyone here.

I actually think it was a Danish book called Bitten (name of the girl in the book) can't remember the author. It belonged to my mom and I still have it somewhere. It still bring fond memories even though I haven't re-read it for the last 20 years.

Unless "Bitten" is a danish word, it's the first novel of a Canadian author called Kelley Armstrong, and is about werewolves. It first came out in 1999. Is that the one, Susanne?

Nope. As I wrote, it's the name of the girl in the book. The book is from the 30s or something and written by a Danish author. Nothing fantasy related about it.
